Our founder, Kevin Benning, was born in Aschaffenburg, Germany in the early 1990s but spent many of his formative years growing up in different countries in West Africa. Some of his fondest childhood memories include spending time climbing different fruit trees to harvest a selection of his favourite fruits like guavas, mangoes and jackfruits.

At the age of 11, he moved back to Germany and eventually settled in Würzburg with his family. As the non-german speaking new kid in school, Kevin found a community in and fell in love with the local breakdance scene.

By the mid-2000s, Kevin was spending most of his free time at breakdance practice or some breakdance-related event. It was around this time that he realised that his clothes were restricting his movements, not allowing him the full freedom to execute a power move he had been practicing. He tried looking for clothing, which would allow him this freedom but couldn't find any that he loved or could realistically afford.

Kevin decided to take it upon himself and spent several months teaching himself how to sew. At the end of this long process, the first Kevin Benning pants were created. To his surprise, many of his friends and fellow dancers took a liking to these pants and started asking if he could also make them a pair. Soon, this new hobby turned into a small side business and the Kevin Benning brand was born.

Being a busy Chemistry and then Communications Design university student, Kevin tried his best to keep the business running in his free time, while also teaching breakdance classes and performing in local dance productions to earn his keep. Although this meant that he barely had enough time to keep up with the demand, his #1 passion and dream was always to grow the business and so he worked hard to make this happen.

The Kevin Benning brand is now run by Kevin and his wife, Julia. After many years of dreaming and careful planning, it has grown into an online store selling unique and stylish activewear, made and designed locally in Würzburg, Germany.

Kevin Benning strives to be known as a brand, which values kindness and steadfastness at it's core. These are guiding principles that are kept in mind for every decision made. The brand's logo, an anchor, was chosen to signify being grounded in it's core values, while being open to the uncertainty and adventure that life brings.

At it's heart, the Kevin Benning brand has always existed to serve a need in the community. Moving into the future, we hope to be able give back to our community as we grow by continuing to design and produce our products locally.
